Summer Short Film Intensive June 6-July 29 2022

“I am sorry that we are not making silent movies any more. That is the purest art form I can imagine.”

--Vilmos Zsigmond

Silent cinema links us to our past. It opens up our future. It connects us to each other. It realizes the cinematic form.

1 short silent film.

3 films that tell visual stories.

Local Maltese locations.

Local Maltese Cast.

Participatory. Pure. We’re all in this together. Faculty, staff, and students. Our films.

Once you’ve read through this section describing our programming, click the apply button below for details on how to apply and what to tell us about yourself to ensure you’re a top candidate.

Pre-production

We’ll take the three scripts from our development workshop and scout locations, design sets and wardrobes, cast Maltese actors, and plan out our cinematography.

Development Workshop

Once you’ve been accepted, we’ll begin developing our scripts. Our first two weeks together will be spent online, meeting virtually to learn about short film writing, develop our creative premises, and write.

Principal Photography

We’ll work together as a group of staff and students to shoot three short films over the course of two and half weeks. Students will have the opportunity to work across the production in a variety of roles.

Sell it

We will conclude our development workshop with a crash course in pitching. Each team will pitch their project to our executive staff.

Post Production

We will then work together to cut, score, and color correct our projects. We’ll work with the Malta Philharmonic to develop orchestral accompaniment specific to each film.

Come to Malta

Students will arrive from all over the world and move into our student hotel, the Cerviola in Marsaskala, Malta. This will be home for the next month, where you’ll be immersed in art, culture, and cinema with your peers.

Wrap

Our culminating event will be a screening of our films for our team of collaborators. The executive team will then work to secure distribution to film festivals around the world.
